Rooibos Tea

Organic Rooibos loose leaf. The rugged bush of South Western Africa that has some pretty amazing qualities, yet is so underrated.

In a recent shipment, we added Organic Rooibos to our rapidly growing loose leaf tea menu. Rooibos is grown from the red bush (Aspalathus linearis) which is a spindly looking shrub in the legume family. it is fermented to get that red colour, but is also sold in a greener form.

It is a herbal tea, red in colour once steeped. It has a very faint honey flavour with a hint of nuttiness and is really refreshing. Unlike black teas, Rooibos won’t go bitter if over steeped, although we are having more success steeping it in below boiling (96 degree) water. It might not be prized for it’s mouth feel or body, but its health benefits are enough reason to drink it daily.

Rooibos contains No Caffeine; has high levels of antioxidants and has something like 95% less tannins than black teas.

Star Gardentown cafe is selling it by the single pot ($3.30), and in 100g retail packs. If you like chai, camomile’s and other herbal teas, you will love Rooibos.
