Kim Halter is Chef extraordinaire of Star Cafe. Growing up in her Mother’s food establishments helped kick start her professional career in an exciting and fun-filled way.
Being the daughter of a food business owner, Kim, or as it was back then little Kim, was that sweet little girl behind the counter serving the locals their dagwood dogs and spicy samosas. Good thing she got older, even better that she turned a point in her life that led to pursuing an apprenticeship in Commercial Cookery. The food she now serves today is a chalk and cheese difference from the food she got to know as a pre-teen.
The chances are that if you have enjoyed a good cafe meal over the last few years in Toowoomba, Kim was the one responsible for preparing it and cooking it. When a passion becomes an income, the end result is usually something more of an artwork. Do you dare eat the culinary explorations that are Kim’s meals, not that you may fear the taste but more that you may wreck such and art piece.
Kim has a knack for the finer things in the industry. Spending time perfecting recipes is her forte and something she does well. Take something easy like cupcakes; Everyone loves a good cupcake but everyone raves about a great cupcake!
Have you tried one of Kim’s cupcakes?
As a chef, Kim has got used to the fact that most of customers complements are absorbed by the front of house staff. Next time you are in the cafe, thank Kim personally for the effort she made, go on, stick your head in the kitchen and praise the chef that made your experience with us some memorable. (She also accepts all tips in either a good bottle of white wine or a pampering package at the local beauty salon). Was the meal worth it?
